First of all, a big thank you to everyone who brought the site issue to my attention last week.Midlifechic seems to have hit a mid-life crisis, and after going unnoticed over the Christmas break, it let me know that it wasn’t happy. The problem seems to affect mainly PCs and Android devices, and given that we have 100% Apple devices in the house, we completely ignored the issue. Luckily, our tech support guys have been working in the background this week, so this post will be short and sweet, but by the time it’s released everything should be back to normal. I just need to re-import some of the missing posts, but if you find any other glitches, please let me know before the tech team (and their bills) clear it all up.
Now, on to something more exciting: I highly recommend end-of-season investing. Most of the products are on final clearance for additional discounts, so there are some really great bargains to be had.
Coats.
Coats are always my first stop when looking for discounted winter items, but this year the selection is a bit thin. In general, retailers have reduced the availability of high-priced items like coats because people aren’t buying them like they used to. The reason? The cost of living continues to rise and there is a growing trend of second-hand buying. Both of these trends are completely understandable, but they do mean that in the future there may be fewer options when we decide to purchase new items. That’s the reality of the current market.
I remember saying in my 2020/21 winter sale post that we may never see a coat as cheap as we used to. The truth is that it now costs quite a lot to produce a high quality coat, with a well-tailored wool or high wool blend coat costing around £400 when production costs and retail margins are factored in. It makes sense, therefore, for brands to focus their efforts on lower-priced products that sell more.
As a result, I’ve found very few coats that stand out this year, not least because I’m not a fan of the typical black, gray or navy colors unless they come with a bit of texture. After all, in the winter, the first thing people see is your coat, not what’s inside. I always look for brightly colored jackets so I can wear something simple underneath, usually navy or a neutral shade. That being said, here are a few bargains worth checking out.
Textured Coat.
I’ve bought this coat and worn it many times. It’s not the warmest coat, but it’s perfect for an evening out or a casual lunch date. One note: although it’s listed as a velvet material, it’s actually moleskin – it may feel a little stiff at first, but it softens with wear. It’s on sale now for half price and is perfect for transitioning into spring.
Durable winter whites
If you’re looking to try something different than a black or navy jacket, a light-colored jacket is definitely the way to go. It adds color to any look and can be worn with almost any piece. This faux fur jacket is particularly resistant to dirt and dust, unlike light colored wool jackets. It exudes a vintage 1950s Hollywood vibe and is currently on sale for half price – such a versatile piece and definitely worth the price.
Sporty trans-seasonal jacket
Speaking of jackets, this is one of my favorite styles. I have the jacket in two colors and highly recommend it. The cut is fantastic, the quality is top notch, the texture is beautiful and the fit is perfect. This jacket is 30% off and can be worn until late spring.
Clearance investment – knitwear
Now that the jacket conundrum is out of the way, there are tons of knitwear specials available. Cashmere sweaters are always a good investment during the sale season, when they are affordable and of luxurious quality. If you’re looking for something that’s both soft and stylish, now is definitely a great time to invest.
Quality From ultra-soft to luxurious cashmere-like texture.
The right fit
If you’re looking for something that’s both cozy and well-fitting, this super-soft, high-quality sweater is for you. I couldn’t help but grin when I realized it’s now half the price I paid for it. This sweater is beautiful because it doesn’t hold its shape like most sweaters do on those days when you just want to get rid of the fat, bulky look. It’s also available in ivory, which I find myself always resisting the urge to choose ……
Zera Cashmere Layered Wrap Top
A piece to brighten up dull neutrals
If I didn’t have a similar piece, I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up this cashmere/merino wool cardigan – it’s on sale for half price right now. The rich maroon color looks great with navy, gray or black and is a must-have closet piece.
Thick cashmere/merino wool cardigan
The perfect neckline
If you’re craving a refreshed spring look, this cashmere boatneck pullover is the way to go. It’s available in a variety of colors, including bright pink, warm pink, and a soft ice blue. The neckline of this pullover is more flattering to most body types than a standard crew neck.
Zera Cashmere Boatneck Pullover
Perfect with jeans
Looking for the perfect sweater to wear with jeans? This cashmere sweater is just what you need – note that the sale ends today (Friday, January 19th).
Cashmere sweater in the same color
Incredible quality at an unbeatable price!
The highly sought-after designer collaboration I showed in my recent video is now on sale for an amazing 70% off! This stunning purple cashmere sweater is not only versatile, but can also be worn with the collar over your shoulders or as a shawl. It’s amazingly affordable, priced below most basic cashmere sweaters on Zera. It’s also available in gray and black.
Asymmetrical cashmere sweater
The collaboration also features a crew knit, which is also now 70% off and available in ivory. The entire collection is drastically reduced in price, which is a shame because it’s quite fashion forward for the target audience. Be quick, though, because the fashion crowd will snap it up as soon as they know about this deal.
Knitwear.
A must-have cozy piece for winter
I can’t leave out this cardigan because I wear it all the time. It’s thick, warm and cozy and perfect for cold alpine weather. Even on a rainy January day, it brings a touch of cheer. It’s not as heavily discounted as other pieces, but it’s still a great addition to any closet. In addition, the matching scarf is also 30% off, making it absolute value for money!
Fair Isle Cardigan and Scarf
Investment pieces coming off the shelves – perfect for traveling!
Designed for traveling, this collection holds its shape while maintaining a comfortable fit. I always wear these when I’m on an airplane or on a long drive. With new pieces added each season, it’s easy to create a versatile mix-and-match closet – perfect for layering, especially when traveling between climates. Currently, many of the basics have dropped in price due to product updates, so now is a great time to get your hands on them. Just a heads up: sizing runs large, so if you’re on the fence between sizes, we recommend going one size smaller.
Zera Turn-Up Straight Leg Pants
For those who often struggle to find the right length, these pants have a slightly shorter inner leg and a rolled hem for a shorter effect. Available only at half price and in black, these pants are a stylish choice.
Custom Stretch Flared Pants
Another 50% off item: these navy flared pants come in two lengths, short and regular. They’re just the right amount of flare pants that aren’t too wide and won’t trip your feet.
Zera Clothing – End of Season Sale and Must Have Pieces
When managing your closet, it’s crucial to have pieces that are both stylish and comfortable. I’ve found that Zera’s wide-leg pants are available in a variety of lengths that are perfect for my lifestyle. The shorter version works great with sneakers, while the regular length complements heels. If you’re looking for versatile pieces, the Kick Flare Travel Pants and Slim Crops are both great for different occasions. However, my favorite is the Slim Crop Travel Pants – stylish and comfortable! And guess what? The navy blue model is on sale right now. Honestly, I’m thinking of buying another pair because they’re just so good.
End of Sale Investment – Shoes
Let’s take a look at footwear. I wear sandals and sneakers most of the time during the warmer months and boots during the colder months. Boots are like a coat, they make a statement and make even the simplest of outfits stand out. This year, I decided to update my boot collection and I’m thrilled with the results. Two of my favorite boots are now on sale at unbeatable prices.
First up are the silver leather boots. They have revolutionized my life. They’re stylish, comfortable (even for those with thicker calves), and always a conversation starter. Now on sale for half price, they are an absolute steal, especially in classic black suede or taupe.
Next up are the Ponyskin leopard print boots. I haven’t had a chance to wear them a few times yet due to the Christmas shopping season, but they are definitely the most eye-catching boots of the season. With the realistic horsehide print and high quality workmanship, they are definitely worth every penny at half price. If leopard print isn’t your thing, there are other colors available, including a hard-to-find chic navy blue suede with a lovely texture that adds depth to any winter look.
For a more formal look, silver leather open heel sandals are the perfect choice. Whether you’re attending a wedding or graduation, or going out with jeans, this low kitten heel will bring just the right amount of elegance. These shoes are on sale for 60% off right now and are definitely worth considering.
Don’t forget the accessories. Lately, the silver leather bag has been my favorite. This bag can be worn crossbody or over the shoulder, and the wide shoulder strap gives it a distinctive and stylish look. Right now, you can get an extra 20% off with discount code EXTRA20, which translates to 50% off.
Also, I love the silver mini dress on sale – it coordinates so well with the boots and bag.
Clearance Investment – Fitness Gear
I’ve worked hard to stay active this winter and fitness gear has become an integral part of my workout routine. While sales on workout clothes have not been promising this year, I was able to score a great pair of compression leggings at a discounted price. These leggings have solid compression, come with a handy cell phone pocket, and an attractive ombre pattern that slims the legs. At less than half price, they’re a great deal.
It can be tricky to find a top that can double as an after-workout wear as well as an everyday lounge wear top, but Zera’s Scuba Hoodie is exactly what I needed. It comes in bold, eye-catching colors like pink and red and has a very stylish design, especially on the back. It’s currently on sale for 50% off, so it’s a great opportunity to get your hands on it.
A quick question: has anyone used the Remarkable 2?
Also, I’m exploring ways to be more productive this year, especially since I find myself spending too much time at my desk. Currently, I switch between two Macs on big screens and a paper notebook when I’m on the road, but I end up taking notes on everything manually. Has anyone used the Remarkable 2 device? I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether it helps with workflow fluidity.
So, lately I’ve been thinking about getting a Remarkable 2 tablet. The idea of converting handwritten ideas directly into digital text is very appealing to me, especially for blogging. It makes me feel like I have more flexibility to create content on the go and improves the immediacy of the creative process. However, it’s very expensive and I hesitate to invest in it if I’m not sure I’ll use it consistently. If any of you are already using it, I’d love to hear your thoughts and see if it’s living up to your expectations!
That’s it for this week. I hope this post on end of season investing was helpful! If you’re looking for great bargains this weekend, I suggest you check out the John Lewis Clearance Center before it closes on Sunday. There are lots of last-minute price cuts there. Also, Me+Em has a few new items on the shelves and reduced prices on some older styles. If you’re looking to update your closet, now is a great time to do it.
I’ll be back next week to update the post after a long weekend break in Newcastle. In the meantime, feel free to drop me a line if you have any technical issues with the site. See you on Friday!
