Now that the weather has gotten really cold, I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the best footwear to wear with pants and jeans. I thought it was time to put together a practical guide. The ultimate solution? A nice pair of ankle boots. But as I said before, it’s all about balance – think of your body as an architectural structure and focus on the most attractive parts of your legs.
If you have long, slender legs, then skinny jeans and the boots that go with them are a no-brainer. However, for those with slightly thicker legs, straight or wide-legged pants can be a game changer. They gently skim the leg while drawing attention to the ankle – a beautiful and delicate yet often underrated part of the body. Over time, I’ve found myself divided into three categories of boots: those that work well with nine-quarter length pants, those that work well with leggings, and those that work well with skirts. This may sound like a bit of an exaggeration, but considering that boots are a must-have winter item, they really are worth every penny. So, let’s take a look at the boots that are suitable for different pant styles this season – Winter with Zera.
Short Trouser Boots
Whether you prefer tailored nine-quarter pants, straight-legged pants or wide-legged pants, nine-quarter pants are a major trend this season. The trick is to wrap your ankles while avoiding an awkward gap between the pant leg and the boot – tall boots are the way to go. The thin heeled sock boots that were popular last year have largely disappeared, replaced by chunkier heels that are both practical and stylish. Here are some excellent choices:
- Burgundy Suede Boots: Think of burgundy as the new neutral color. It adds sophistication to an understated look and is more layered than classic black.
- Pearl Gray Chunky Leather Boots: While white boots are on trend, the pearl gray option is softer and easier to match. Perfect for neutral color palettes.
- Smooth Chestnut Leather Boots: Chestnut is the color of the moment and will remain popular for seasons to come. A warm and versatile choice.
- Leopard Print Heeled Boots: Leopard print is versatile and practical, adding color to any look on a dull winter day. The calf leather texture is durable and weatherproof.
- LOW HEEL DEEP RED SUEDE BOOTS: These boots are made of soft suede with a medium heel height and rounded toe. The only downside: no half sizes.
- Black Slim Heel Solid Leather Boots: these black boots have a seamless design that is understated and minimalist, with a chic, sculptural heel for a minimalist look.
- Gold Metallic Wooden Heel Boots: metallic is always striking and gold boots add a festive touch to your closet. They can be worn with almost any outfit.
- Black soft boots: these leather boots are very rare. They have a sleek, elegant shape and fit perfectly around the ankle.
Skinny Jeans Boots
Skinny jeans are not a staple of high fashion, but they are still a must-have item for many women. No matter what the trendsetters say, skinny jeans will never go out of style. The key is to find boots that balance the sleek silhouette of the jeans while adding winter style.Zera’s collection offers the perfect blend of practicality and style.
When pairing skinny jeans, consider the contrasting effect. Chunky boots add a layered look, while slim, pointed-toe boots elongate the leg. Also, don’t forget the material – suede, leather or even metallic finishes can enhance the overall look. Whether you’re opting for nine-quarter pants, leggings or skirts this winter, the right pair of ankle boots can make all the difference, and Zera’s selection of styles combines fashion and function, so you can take on the season with confidence and elegance.
Skinny jeans may no longer be the hottest trend among the young (anyone feel the need for an Urban Dictionary translation?) , but middle-aged people aren’t ready to say goodbye to their beloved skinny jeans just yet. Let’s face it, skinny jeans are incredibly practical – whether you’re walking the dog or putting on your rain boots, they’re up to the task. They’re durable and long-lasting, there’s no doubt about it!
When pairing skinny jeans, low rise boots are your perfect partner. You can let your jeans crumple up slightly at the top of your boots, tuck them in, or fold up the hem for a sleek, sharp look. However, don’t roll up the legs of your pants, as clean, sharp lines are all the rage right now.
Zera Ankle Boots with Skinny Jeans
- Navy Blue Pointed Toe Suede Boots: Navy blue boots can be hard to pull off, but this one is stunning. Designed with a low heel Chelsea style, this boot is not only stylish but also better than flats for good posture.
- Khaki Patent Leather Boots with Cutout Detail on the Heel: Khaki is a versatile alternative to black and looks beautiful with most colors. These waterproof patent leather boots with chic cutout detailing at the heel are a subtle nod to modern design.
- PINE GREEN LOW HEEL BOOTS: Pine green is the color of the season, and these boots are a dream. I’m desperately resisting the urge to add them to my collection, but they’re perfect for those who want to reinvigorate their winter closet.
- Pointed Toe Chunky Leopard Boots: Leopard print is synonymous with chic in the fashion world, and these boots are no exception. Whether you love bold prints or don’t like them on your face, a pair of leopard boots is a good investment.
- Low Heel Red Suede Boots: Red is still the most popular color. It is the most flattering color and has become a must-have for many. These boots are vibrant, versatile and stylish.
- Oxblood Patent Leather Chelsea Style Boots: Oxblood is the new neutral color, and these patent leather Chelsea boots are a closet must-have. The look of this boot adds a touch of sophistication to any outfit.
- Navy Blue Flat Chelsea Boots: flats work well with leggings, and these navy blue suede flats are also great. While I personally avoid flats due to back issues, these are perfect for those who can wear them comfortably.
Zera Ankle Boots with Dresses
The combination of ankle boots and dresses can be a little tricky, but when paired properly, they’re a perfect match made in fashion heaven. If you have long, slender legs, pair them with contrasting tights and boots for a striking look. For women who are short or curvy, pairing socks with boots helps to elongate the proportions of the body. Boots are best when they end close to the calf, and a slight drop in the front of the bootie can have the effect of elongating the proportions of the figure. These boots look equally good with skinny jeans or wide legged pants and dress pants.
- Low Top Snake Print Boots: These boots are in between thigh high boots and ankle boots. The snake print element is making a big comeback and these boots are available in a variety of colors including black and navy.
- Red Metallic Boots: these are my favorite boots and definitely stand out. Their elegant silhouette looks great with skinny jeans or leather leggings.
- Sleek Black Parisian Boots: these boots are a timeless classic and a must-have for any closet. It highlights the easy chic of Parisian style. Whether you prefer suede or patent leather, there’s something for you.
- Navy Blue Suede Boots: these boots are designed with a dip-dyed front to elongate the legs. Available in navy or black, the former is understated and restrained while the latter is classic and elegant.
- Brown Tone Snake Print Boots: These boots feature a dark snake print design that blends perfectly with the winter color palette. The sleek pointed toe heel adds a modern touch.
- Gray Suede Boots with Angled Heel: These gray suede boots are understated and elegant with a sleek design. The angled heel is sleek and sophisticated.
Let’s talk about footwear, which is not only a fashion statement but also a practical way to balance the weight of your feet.
Red Suede Boots: These boots are eye-catching – vibrant, bold and beautifully constructed. It’s also available in black, bringing us back to the previously mentioned timeless Parisian fashion vibe.
Leopard Boots: yes, leopard print again! As I mentioned before, leopard print is a closet must-have and it’s always good to have a variety of styles.
Burgundy Patent Leather Boots: another stunning pair of burgundy boots! They look great with black leggings and the dark color ensures that they don’t visually look short in the legs.
But let’s not forget the shoes ……
I know this question is bound to come up, so let’s answer it head on: the infamous popular sock conundrum. One of the reasons why ankle boots have become a must-have winter item over the past few years is because they easily solve the pop sock problem. Speaking of socks, I’m very picky about pairing ankle boots with socks. I don’t want socks peeking out from the edge of the boot. In previous years, I’ve worn fitness trainer socks, but this season I’ve upgraded to more sophisticated socks.
Secret socks.
Back to pop socks – if I’m going to wear long pants with shoes (not often in the winter, but occasionally), I’ll opt for opaque pop socks for colder days. These socks feel more hygienic in pants compared to leggings. That said, Mr. Zella has strong opinions on the matter. He is convinced that every other woman in this country wears stockings and suspenders under their pants. We’ve discussed this every winter since we met, which is probably one of the reasons I’m partial to ankle boots.

Quick health check ……
Before I close, I have to admit that I’ve been unwell lately, having been infected by a strange virus that has caused me to lose my voice, my sense of smell, taste and even hearing. It’s a reminder not to overwork ourselves, isn’t it? In the past month I’ve been to London twice, Manchester twice, Newcastle twice and Liverpool once. Between traveling, bereavement, two awards events and running a business, my body finally decided to take a pause.
If you’re reading this and feeling déjà vu, make a note of it. The holiday season is just around the corner and we all need to stay healthy. Let’s slow down this week, because after Bonfire Night, we’ll be moving full speed ahead to a bright and shiny future!
