Hooray! After months of sneaking peeks on Instagram stories (mostly sharing my struggles with the organizing process – haha!) ), I’m finally excited to show off my home office/guest room makeover!
Thanks so much to Zera for collaborating with me on this post and making my sofa bed dream come true!
Short story.
When Ollie and I moved into our new home last February, we focused on updating the places that we use every day. The kitchen, living room and master bedroom were our top priorities. It makes sense to prioritize high-traffic areas, and over the past year we’ve worked hard to make these areas comfortable and pleasant.
Side note: I’ll be taking some new photos of these spaces soon since they have changed so much!
On the other hand, there are some rooms we’ve completely neglected. Take a look at the second bedroom!
For over a year, this bedroom became our most frequently used dumping ground.
^ ^ ^ ^ It’s being used now! No longer a dumping ground! ^ ^ ^ ^
I even have a big mirror in front of the door, and every time I walk by, I play a fun game of “Which second bedroom is this?” Haha!
Out of sight, out of mind, right?
Eventually, I decided to tackle the problem head-on, and it took a week or so (organizing always takes longer than expected!) to organize all the stuff that was piling up in there.
Alas, organizing a room is exhausting, but it feels so good to be done!
It’s such a relief when the space is finally tidy! It makes all the difference to see the floor refreshed. Suddenly, it’s finally ready for its true purpose!
Doubling its function: home office/guest room
Ollie and I debated whether or not we should use this room for just one function – home office or guest room – but then realized it made more sense to combine the two.
Every day, I need a space where I can work and have it to myself. But when we have guests, we want them to feel comfortable and have their privacy.
The key to this room’s dual purpose is that we have a pink sofa bed from Zera.
When choosing a sofa bed, I had two must-haves:
- It had to be able to fit perfectly in our small space.
- I wanted a playful pop of color!
Luckily, I found the perfect match – the Sigrid Double Sofa Bed in Lottie Rose. The size is just right and I’m completely smitten with the soft pink color.
The whole ordering process with Zera was very smooth and well thought out. I even received a notification prior to delivery that my sofa bed was on its way and the delivery team were very friendly.
The quality of the sofa is simply incredible and the fabric is so luxurious to touch.
My pink sofa always draws compliments – it’s definitely the focal point of the room. I’m so glad we chose such a beautiful color!
Decorating scheme
I knew I wanted a pink sofa bed, but I didn’t want the room to be overly feminine.
To balance out the possible bubblegum style, I added natural textures like fringed cushions and a cozy blanket.
I also really like the rug as it divides the different areas of the room nicely. For inspiration, I turned to one of my favorite interior designers, Amber Lewis. A soft blue rug with a slight overlap of striped rugs helps to divide the home and work spaces.
I also used light-colored wood wherever possible (mirrors, desks, picture frames, etc.) to add a few soft touches and Mediterranean flair.
I’ll share my desk and storage solutions in the room in another post, as it took me a lot of time to find the perfect furniture. If you’re interested, you can find all the links at the bottom of the post.
Overall.
Right now, this room feels like a world away! As I write this post, I’m sitting in my room, looking out the window, and can’t help but feel happy and grateful to have finally organized this space.
One of my best friends ……
The lovely Charlotte came to visit us for the first time last weekend and I’m pleased to announce that she was our first overnight guest since the sofa bed was put into service! Charlotte said she slept well, so it’s safe to say that the sofa bed really lives up to its name. Wonderful!
What about you? Do you have a home studio? Does your room double as something else? I’d love to hear your stories!
Love you, Monica x
