Autumn Fashion Trends 2024 Whats New and Must-Have Styles

I know it’s still warm, and if you’re like me, you’re definitely seizing every moment of summer (which, let’s be honest, has only just arrived, but let’s not dwell on that!) . That being said, there’s no denying that the nights are getting cooler and the sunsets are getting earlier – fall is creeping in. Before you know it, the clothes in your closet will be changing seasons. As such, today’s post is designed to help you get ready. The goal? To breathe new life into a few old garments while identifying new ones that may need to be added. Let’s get Zera’s take on fall fashion trends for 2024 – what’s new?

Fall Fashion Trends for 2024 – What’s New?

When asked what’s new in fall fashion trends for 2024, the short answer is: not much has changed, at least at first glance. This season’s fashion updates feel more like a gentle evolution than a revolution. There were no sea changes in styles, hemlines or colors, and many of the trends looked familiar. As middle-aged adults, we’ve probably seen these styles before and likely already know how to wear them.

But as always, some subtleties are worth noting. The reaction to the ultra-loose, confined silhouette continues, and the key buzzword you hear is “demure”. Think of the heroines of Hitchcock movies wearing tailored pencil skirts – classic Chanel and Dior style. Will this style hit the streets? We’ll see. You’ll see gold buttons, tweed-style Chanel jackets, cardigans and double-breasted coats everywhere – yes, pencil skirts are making a comeback. Whether they will resonate with shoppers remains to be seen. Exaggerated oversized pantsuits are also part of this office style aesthetic, which seems to be growing in popularity among millennials returning to the workplace, with hashtags like #OfficeGirl trending.

For those of us who have moved on from the 9-to-5 life, this look may not quite fit into our daily lives. It will be interesting to see how older powerhouse women pull off this style – like the Duchess of Edinburgh or Angela Rayner and Victoria Starmer, to name a few. The challenge with these classic Chanel style jackets and pencil skirts is that they can look a little dated on older women. While they look playful and ironic on younger women, on us they run the risk of looking like a Hyacinth Bucket. if you like this style, try pairing them with contrasting colors – a pencil skirt with a casual bodysuit, or a short jacket with baggy, wide-leg jeans.

As for me, I’d skip most of the demure trends and the “paper doll” aesthetic (think angular, oversized cut-outs from childhood magazines). Bubble hemlines are also making a comeback – yes, the ’80s poncho – but this time with a mid-length hemline. I’d probably skip those, too.

What elements are easy to incorporate into the Fall 2024 trends?

Fall 2024 Trends – Rustic Style

This is an enduring popular element that reappears every fall under a new name. Plaids, tartans and diamond patterns – you know the drill. This year, little tan kilim checks are everywhere, reminiscent of the classic Viyella style.

  • Chiffon pants paired with a merino wool pullover are a timeless choice.
  • A plaid trench coat paired with a wool scarf in a striking color like orange and sturdy boots is the perfect match for the season.
  • A quilted jacket over a denim shirt and t-shirt is another easy option.

Tartan is back in vogue, appearing on pants, dresses and oversized scarves as a bib for jackets.

  • Look out for plaid skirts and plaid shoes to add a playful touch.
  • Argyle cardigans are making a strong comeback, available in classic colorways like camel.
  • Argyle sweaters and scarves bring a cozy yet elegant vibe.
  • Argyle patterned socks with Louboutins add a collegiate touch to the look.

Pleated skirts are giving way to kilts, which will be a key piece this season, and Zera will soon be offering pieces from this trend, so stay tuned for updates.

Zera Fall 2024 Trends

Alpine knitwear

Alpine-inspired knitwear is big this season – après-ski jumps, cozy boots and warm hats. Indulge in mountain chic while staying stylish.

  • Cashmere sweaters: the ultimate in luxurious layering.

Leopard print – making a comeback!

Yes, really! Leopard print will be back as a fashion favorite for fall 2024. While snake and zebra prints have also been all the rage, the natural fall tones of leopard make it perfect for this season. A modern way to wear it? Add a vintage twist – it’s a great reason to tap into vintage treasures and create a chic look with ease.

  • Leopard print jacket
  • Leopard print dress (up to size 30)
  • Animal print shirt

Whether you’re an avid leopard print lover or just dipping your toes into the trend, you can’t go wrong. Leopard print jeans, in particular, are seeing sales skyrocket as we head into fall.

  • Leopard Print Jeans

For something a little more understated, try leopard print as an accessory – like shoes, a belt, or a bag. The key is to have a rich, well-crafted texture, like pony skin, for a sophisticated look.

  • Leopard print boots
  • Leopard print ballet flats
  • Leopard print belt (best choice!)
  • Leopard print bag

Bohemian Revival

It seems like only yesterday that bohemian style ruled the fashion world, but it’s back, in a more sophisticated, Chloe-inspired way for the Fall/Winter 2024 collection. Tan suede, sophisticated blouses and wide-leg jeans.

  • Suede jackets; suede dresses

For a minimalist approach, opt for micro-flared jeans, just-right off-the-shoulder shirts and ankle boots. Thankfully, embroidered vests and chunky disk belts haven’t made a comeback …… at least not yet.

  • Bubble-sleeve blouse
  • Slim-fit flared jeans with a frayed front
  • Ankle boots

Shiny.

Last year’s silver metallics set the tone for high-gloss textures, and this year, leather and faux leather took the spotlight with glossy finishes. Patent leather and vinyl also shine.

  • Faux Leather Trousers (available in a variety of colors, up to size 30)

Leather is no longer limited to black, but now comes in rich fall shades such as burgundy, pine green and chestnut brown.

  • Chocolate-colored faux leather skirts and tops
  • Faux leather pants, vests, super soft sweaters, boots

For an easy take on the trend, try a leather jacket or trench coat. Tapered leather pants with heels are also a stylish choice for a night out.

  • Faux leather pants (available in a variety of colors); ribbed undershirt (available in a variety of colors)

As the holiday season approaches, wiry metallic textures will be replacing sequins – we’ll talk more about that soon.

Fur, feathers and fleece

This trend is just starting to show up and will be heating up this season. It pairs perfectly with bohemian styles – short faux fur jackets, long faux fur coats, wool skins and faux tweeds. The style is pure and opulent, reminiscent of Joan Collins’ signature style. Feathers, especially faux ostrich trim at the hem and cuffs, are also making waves (though they may require dry cleaning). If you have a leopard print faux fur coat stashed in your closet, it’s time to pull it out and wear it this year.

Wide silhouettes

Despite the comeback of skinny jeans, the wide silhouette is still a staple. Oversized coats and wide-legged pants were the focus, but this season the waist took center stage. Belts were everywhere, tied at the thinnest point of the body – even layered over a coat or jacket.

Buttoned Cardigans

Cardigans are stealing the show from sweaters this fall. Pair it with a merino wool or cashmere vest for a stylish yet cozy look.

  • Knitted Merino Wool and Cashmere Vests
  • Shirt Layering
  • Corded pants

Seasonal pieces such as undershirts have taken a backseat to knit vests, which have taken their place as the perfect piece for layering. The versatility of the vest makes it easy to pair with a crisp shirt or sophisticated top for a chic layered look.

Merino wool, cashmere and silk cardigans

Soft knit vests are a great choice for an effortlessly stylish closet. Try undoing a few buttons to draw the eye to the waist and create attractive curves.

  • Knit vest (also available in black )
  • Cotton denim shirt

Pointed Toe Shoes

Formal shoes are making a quiet comeback, with open-heeled sandals making a big comeback in the summer. Now, the classic pointed toe pumps are taking center stage and look even more stylish with jeans. The pointed toe is the main feature of this shoe, but how many people would wear them except for a night out? For those who used to commute to work in pointed toe shoes, the thought of catching a train in them now seems a little daunting. Will the younger generation put up with sore feet and calloused toes for the sake of fashion? Only time will tell.

The Return of Gray

The return of gray as a neutral color has been met with joy and sorrow. Although many other shades appeared on the runway, people on the street still prefer gray because of its simplicity and versatility. People with cooler skin tones are naturally suited to gray. If your skin tone is on the warmer side, you can choose ivory gray with yellow undertones, or go for a mottled gray for a softer effect. Although gray is not everyone’s favorite color, there is no denying that it is very practical.

Fall 2024 Fashion Trends – Color

Pantone’s analysis of the London Fashion Week collections reveals the key trending colors for fall 2024. From soft grays to rich shades of pumpkin, eggplant, tomato and pine, there’s something for you. These colors pair effortlessly with denim basics, making it easy to incorporate them into your existing closet.

For longevity, consider purchasing orange and green colors, as they will transition perfectly into spring and summer. As tempting as burgundy is, it often looks out of place after November. Instead, opt for a burgundy bag – it’s a stylish and practical way to pay homage to the season’s demure aesthetic.

  • Burgundy Shoulder Crossbody Dual Purpose Bag

Neutral Colors Lead the Way Forward

Khaki has made a strong comeback as a key element in high street collections. However, khaki can be difficult to master. Those with warmer skin tones can opt for dark olive, while those with cooler skin tones should go for lighter or pastel shades. In addition to khaki, there is a range of greens to explore – keep experimenting until you find the color that enhances your closet.

Brown is also having its springtime, finally reclaiming its place in seasonal collections. Brown jeans, pants, jackets or accessories can be worn as a versatile piece that can be easily paired with navy, gray, black or camel pieces. Incorporating brown into your closet is a simple yet effective way to refresh your look.

Think about the story your clothing conveys – the beauty of fall fashion is that it lasts. With the right investment, these pieces can provide you with a comfortable experience for most of the year. Zera Midlife Event – October 31st

As I mentioned last week, I’m really looking forward to the upcoming opportunity to meet you all at a special event I’m hosting with my dear friend Claudia Bradby. If you missed the previous preview, here’s a preview of the event. We will be gathering at the stylish and cozy Artist Residence in Pimlico, London. While enjoying a welcome drink, you can sit back and relax and listen to my conversation with Claudia as we delve into the fascinating world of jewelry. We’ll chat about how she finds her pieces and the inspiration behind her designs, while I’ll ask her for styling tips – from mixing metals to layering textures and weights. This will be an informal and interactive event, so feel free to ask any questions.

Afterwards, you’ll have the opportunity to try out styling ideas on your own wrists and necks by wearing the jewelry on display. There will be plenty of time to mingle in the stylish townhouse atmosphere, and the bar is always at your service if you’d like another drink. Best of all, you will receive a goodie bag to take home as a souvenir.

I sincerely hope you can make it. Tickets are on sale, but due to the limited space, we can only accommodate 30 guests – so once the spots are filled, they’re gone. That’s why I gave you advance notice last week.

Date: Thursday, October 31st
Time: 6pm – 10pm
Venue: Pimlico Artists’ Flat, London
Tickets: £17

I can’t wait to meet you all!

That’s all for today. I hope you’re as excited as I am about fall fashion trends and the exciting season ahead in 2024. This weekend we are hosting our last outdoor music event, which seems like a bittersweet farewell to this most magical of summers. So for those of you who are feeling a little sad about the end of the season, here’s an idea to lift your spirits:

And all that is to come
are full of trees and ever-changing leaves.”
— Virginia Woolf
